Ruya Foundation hosted a panel discussion on art, conflict and Iraq as part of its programme for Iraq Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale. Held at the Scuola Grande dei Carmini the panel examined the role of art in conflict, and the ways in which artists’ contributions to the subject can effect change.
The speakers were from a range of disciplines and included the artist Kader Attia, political scientists Gilles Kepel and Charles Tripp, archaeologist Lamia al Gailani and trauma psychologist Justine Hardy. Curator Philippe van Cauteren, and Ruya Foundation’s chair, historian and author Tamara Chalabi were also part of the panel. A full video of the discussion is available below:
